Gold slips as stronger dollar offsets safe-haven demand

Gold prices edged lower on Thursday as a stronger U.S. dollar outweighed support from safe-haven demand driven by escalating tensions in the Middle East.

Spot gold fell 0.4% to $4,030.09 per ounce by 0915 GMT, while U.S. gold futures slipped 0.3% to $4,033.20. The dollar index strengthened, making bullion more expensive for holders of other currencies. Investors also weighed the prospect of higher inflation from surging oil prices and the implications for U.S. interest rates.
